Tessa

My negative experience in education;
I feel the most negative experience of education has been with my daughter, also as a teacher in a secondary school.
I have had negative experiences at school but none worse than the usual disappointing mark or falling out with friends resulting in a bit of social discord!

but my daughters experience was more serious and even though I was not having first hand experience having to live with it was miserable and caused some anxiety.
her main problem was relatively severe dyslexia, she had problems reading and writing and was labeled as stupid when in actual fact was very bright but this was never picked up on until she went to university.
the frustration of this made her disruptive and aggressive with teachers and other pupils and was eventually asked to leave at 15.
As it turned out this was probably the best thing that could have happened as she arrived at VTS and they had experience of working with dyslexia and were able to teach he she was not thick but also strategies she could use to study, and luckily she was not turned off education all together, and has since achieved a 1st in BA fine art.
Her dissertation was about the philosophy of space typical dyslexics thinking in 3D.

I in turn had the most miserable teaching experience when teaching at a secondary school and would never go back.
