If am totally honest most of my learning experience is not positive and not very inspirational. But as we can all learn something from these negative experiences i will name and shame the worst offenders.
Dr David Parker- A lesson spent looking at his chalk covered back, as his spidery writing covered the blackboard and him monotonously droning out information about shear forces and impact strengths, which the class dutifully then copied into note books.
Paul Eckhart- this man took sadistic pride in embarrassing and undermining his students at every opportunity, his constructive critism was ‘that’s C**p, do it again’. But to be fair this was the 1980’s and it was not victimisation as he did it to everyone.
Matthew- very boring directionless, unplanned lessons. No knowledge of the subject, when he wasn’t going for a smoke, or on the phone, he was talking about his girlfriend (soon to be wife) who was the course director.
My most positive learning happened when i was an adult learner, learning how to ski. The instructor was very kind, considerate, encouraging, patient, focusing on individual needs, and wanting you to progress and learn. He made the lessons fun by playing games, and you forgot your embarrassments of the day and left every lesson with a feeling of achievement. The instructor was very young and very inexperienced (it was their 3rd week of teaching) but had tons of enthusiasm, knowledge and patience.
