Good experience
In preparation for our Geography A-Level, our class had to do a river study. We researched a river tributary and plotted a map of locations we would study. On our field trip we measured various aspects of the tributary’s dynamics as it flowed from its source to just before it entered the main river.
The activity involved a lot of walking through countryside, which was a familiar and relaxing experience for me. It also involved climbing down into and up out of the river at the various locations, which was a physical challenge I thoroughly enjoyed. And of course, it involved a classmate stepping too deeply into the stream and screaming frantically whilst her boots filled up with water.
Bad experience:
I have a rather restricted memory of a maths lesson in Year 2 during which we were finding the difference by counting backwards from one number to the second number. I remember finding it very difficult to understand which numbers to include whilst counting and which to leave out. For example, when counting backwards, was I supposed to count the number I started on or begin counting only after the first jump? I cannot remember how I finished that lesson since the memory ends with that feeling of helplessness as I watched the others in my class finish their work without a problem.
