Both of my experiences come from Junior School.
When I was in year 3 (1st year Juniors) I had a fantastic teacher who somehow managed to make every topic we studied fun and interesting. My most positive memory from this exciting year was when we were learning about tadpoles and frogs - several of us had said it was a shame there wasn't a pond at the school so we could observe the tadpoles as they changed. My teacher decided that it was so much of a shame that she built a pond in our classroom!
2 years later, at the same school, we were split into sets for Maths. I was in the top set but didn't feel at all comfortable there. The headteacher took top set and seemed to favour the children who could add numbers up in their heads quickly - I couldn't. I have a very vivid memory of being made to stand up in class and having several series of numbers fired at me which I was unable to do anything with. That was the moment I lost my confidence in Maths.
